Walshs community support

At Walshs community support matters. The Walshs team are active members of the local Brisbane and wider international communities. We regularly engage in community events such as the CEO Sleepover, Movember, Global Corporate Challenge, 55 for 5 Leukaemia Foundation Challenge and many other events to raise awareness and funding for charities and local organisations alike.
Walshs Community Support

Walshs community support is both formal and informal. While we have more formal activities in place, we actively encourage staff to bring to our attention causes close to their hearts and promote involvement within the firm.

On top of this Michael Walsh, CEO of Walshs, continues to get out of his comfort zone by hiking around the world in order to raise money for charity. Some of the hikes completed include Base Camp Mount Everest, the Kokoda Trail, Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as many other formidable peaks in many locations around the world.

Walk with Walshs

Walk with Walshs

Hiking to Beat Blood Cancer
Saturday 19 May – Sunday 20 May 2018

Two days and 55km through subtropical rainforest,  past stunning gorges, waterfalls and scenic coastal panoramas, the Walk with Walshs team shed blood, sweat and tears (of joy of course!) to raise vital funds for the Leukaemia Foundation .

Our team of 20 partners, clients, staff and their family and friends joined forces for the walk to raise $20,000 so far.

Walshs’ CEO Michael Walsh said the team churned through quite a few band-aids, blister packs, protein bars, and bottles of water over the two days but it was all worth the hard work and discomfort.

“Pushing our mental and physical boundaries while we raised money for a good cause was very rewarding,” Micheal said.

“And while the walk was certainly challenging, tired muscles, sore feet, and a few blisters are nothing compared to what leukaemia patients and their families endure during treatment.”

Every day 35 Australians are diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and other types of blood cancer.

Money raised from Walk with Walshs will fund medical research and help the Leukaemia Foundation provide a range of free services for patients including counselling, transportation to and from medical appointments, and accommodation for their family close to treatment facilities.

Michael said when he started Walshs nearly 30 years ago, he made it a priority to help make a difference in the community.

“Sponsoring just $50 will mean someone being treated in hospital gets a personal visit from a highly-trained health professional to get the extra support they need. No matter how much you give, it’s an extraordinary way to make a difference.

“This event is really important to us and I can’t thank enough the clients, staff and friends who have supported us on the Walk with Walshs.”

If you missed the walk, it isn’t too late to support the team and the Leukaemia Foundation.

“We have until June 30 to reach our target and of course all donations are tax deductible,” Michael said.

“We’ve already set our sights on a bigger Walk with Walshs team for August 2019.

“Again, thank you to the staff, clients, and friends who have supported Walk with Walshs,” Michael said.

If you want to support the cause, we are taking donations until the end of the financial year.

Walshs would like to invite you to join us on a life changing travel experience.

In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Walshs will be travelling to Fiji in October, to spend seven days building homes for families in need.

As an organisation we have been so fortunate to live in an incredible country and work alongside great people. We want to give back as an organisation and we believe our impact can go beyond the houses we build! We’re expanding our horizons, broadening our skills and connecting with the wider community. Our work will build a better future for not only the families we will support but also a better future for Walshs.

You may have heard of Habitat for Humanity: a non-profit organisation which works in partnership with low income families to build simple, decent, affordable houses in Australia and around the world. Habitat work goes beyond just home building, they provide land security, access to clean water and education and an opportunity. Through donations and the use of volunteer labour (like ours), Habitat for Humanity to date has been able to build over 800,000 homes in more than 94 countries.

We know that we can do more together than as individuals, and working together on this project, side-by-side, sharing this experience, we’ll develop a deeper understanding of each other.

However, we cannot do it alone – only with your support can we make this difference. We would like to invite you to be a part of this amazing opportunity and join us to build a home for a Fijian family from the 1 – 8 October 2016.

Kind Regards
